Wasteland 3 details Character Creation, Customization & Combat

InXile Entertainment has shared a new dev diary gameplay video that goes over several key mechanics of their upcoming turn-based action-RPB Wasteland 3. This first entry in the dev diary series is focusing primarily on character creation, customization, and combat. Watch it here!

The venerable Wasteland franchise is back and stronger than ever. After a triumphant return into the limelight with 2014’s Kickstarter success Wasteland 2, inXile is preparing for the release of the third entry this August. The series that basically spawned the post-apocalyptic genre in gaming and counts as the forefather of the Fallout series is taking the Nuclear Winter quite literally and takes players on an adventure in the snow-covered beauty of Colorado.

Or what remained of it after the nukes dropped. It should be a digital delight to wander through the cold winter scenery during this summer’s scorching heat. But the wasteland is a dangerous place, and it has no interest in letting players relax.

Lead Game Designer David Rogers explains in the new dev diary some very important facets of Wasteland 3. Namely, the many ways you can personalize your journey in it and create a unique experience, unlike any other player. Aiding you with that is a deep character customization system that still is designed to explicitly show the player what each character attribute actually does instead of just an immersive flavor text. On top of that is a high-risk high-reward Bonus system which gives characters a powerful bonus with the caveat of a big penalty. In the post-apocalyptic wasteland, everything has its price after all.

Last but not least, we are introduced to the Kodiak. The mighty mechanical steed that helps us on our journey from Colorado Springs to Denver. Just like our party members, the Kodiak itself can be customized from its visual to armament, and aid in battle.

Wasteland 3 is launching August 28th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
