[Watch] 12 minutes of Prey is enough to make you want it in your hands right now

Looks like 'Shock' needs to officially become a genre.

When you see Prey in action, it's easy to point to BioShock as a point of comparison, and you wouldn't be wrong. The reboot of the long-thought-dead franchise looks like it's going to emulate everything that Developer Arkane (Dishonored) does well while paying homage to the Shock games of old. That goes for both BioShock and System Shock, the one that started it all.

This week a lot of people got their hands on Prey, and the team at PlayStation released 12-minutes of gameplay that are as close to spoiler-free as it can get.

In Prey, the narrative and the gameplay are seamlessly woven together as most events play out in front of you while you're fully in control. Prey also packs itself with emergent gameplay opportunities as well aimed shots from your freeze gun double as platforms to help your reach areas you wouldn't normally be able to access by conventional means. The game is designed to say 'yes' to the player.

Prey will also be evoking shades of the Dark Souls series, notably in regards to its difficulty, so don't expect to be able to just waltz in and take out every enemy in your path.

Prey releases on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on May 5th, 2017.
