If you've ever played BioWare's massively underrated 2005 Action-RPG, Jade Empire, took some of its core systems, expanded upon them, added bits of flavoring from the likes of God Hand and Monkey Island, and placed it into an open world MMO, that's about what you could expect from Sloclap and Devolver Digital's upcoming Action-MMO, Absolver. Packaging it all within a unique painterly art style, and you've got the makings of a game that should end up on many a gamer's radar.
IGN recently released an exclusive 15-minute gameplay demo, showing off the early moments of Absolver's Single Player tutorial. At the core of the Absolver experience is the game's incredibly deep Martial Arts combat system. While you've got your typical, Punch, Kick, and Block mechanics on the surface, the game gets so much deeper by including things like Feint Attacks and the ability to customize your own set of combos.
Feint Attacks serve as fake-outs for your opponent, as a way of getting them to lower their defenses in an instant for you to take advantage of the opening that it creates. Your characters also have the ability to learn new combos just by facing other opponents. By using a unique absorb ability in combat, your character can memorize the combos of opponents and make them a part of your repertoire.
Absolver will be releasing on PC, PS4, and Xbox One sometime this year.
