In case you need a refresher, publisher Gameforge, and developer Sparkypants Studios, which is comprised of developers of the HIGHLY underrated RTS, Rise of Nations, are currently working on Dropzone, an RTS where every match will last at most 15 minutes. The game is currently in its Closed Beta, and as development continues, Gameforge wants you to know about an all-new class, The Summoner.
The Summoner relies on the manipulation of the battlefield rather than straight, brute force. Here's an excerpt from the official press release:
Unlike the Tank, Gunner or Mechanic classes, the Summoner relies on map-influencing effects. They can manipulate the Kavash Hives to direct hostile aliens against the opposing player or create impasses to cut off strategic points on the map. Players can now combine existing classes with the all-new Summoner class to drive more diverse play strategies and tactical action.
Dropzone is strictly a 1V1 RTS that aims to bring classic attributes of the genre, such as map control and multi-unit direction and streamlines it all into a formula that can work for both the hardcore and beginners. Dropzone will release sometime next year as a free download, but if you're interested, you can get in on the game now by signing up for the Closed Beta.
