Watch: 6 minutes of Yooka-Laylee gameplay footage

Considering all of the trailers to date, anyone with eyes can see that Playtonic Games has been infusing Yooka-Laylee with the charm one could expect from a classic Rare game. There's the punny names, toilet humor, googly eyes, David Wise music, transformations, and all the collectables you can shake a stick at. Yooka-Laylee looks like the Banjo-Threeie that Nuts & Bolts should have been.

That's all fine and dandy, but trailers once made even Aliens: Colonial Mariines look good. How does Yooka-Laylee actually play when you have it in your hands? The guys over at Eurogamer went hands on with it, and they seem to think Playtonic Games has the right idea. The controls are where they need to be to make platforming fun, the level density keeps the sizeable zones from feeling sparse, and modifying areas gives players a reason to come back to every zone in the game. Who would have guessed that a team made up o former Banjo-Kazooie devs would be on point with level design?

73,206 Kickstarter backers.for starters.

Watch the Eurogamer crew go hands on below, and let us know what your favorite side character is named:
