Gamers everywhere got a little glimpse of the new Prey game during last night’s Game Awards, but today, developer Arkane Studios is giving us a bit more to chew on before the game’s release.
An 8-minute gameplay feature was revealed showing plenty of Prey’s gunplay and mechanics.
The video takes place on the Talos-1 space station, where you have to navigate your way through isolated corridors and huge lab stations. Arkane showed off a few weapons including the glue cannon, which can freeze enemies into white statue globs, which you can easily break apart. The glue cannon also has other benefits like traversing hard to reach areas by creating walkable platforms, and even capping environmental hazards like broken gas lines.
Another neat weapon is the recycler charge, which is a small hand grenade that de-materializes anything it touches, including boxes, furniture, and enemies.
Prey also allows players to tap into alien abilities like mimic, which allows you to take the form of inanimate objects like the previously mentioned recycler charge — or even a coffee cup.
The gunplay looks exciting as well, with a seamless use of weapons and abilities in each encounter, a few of which contained some slow-mo moments reminding me of F.E.A.R.
The video ultimately ends with a confrontation against a giant boss creature known as a nightmare, leaving us wanting more from Prey.
Prey is expected to release Spring 2017 on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
