[Watch] Battlefield 1 Patch 1.05 manages to improve performance on PS4 and Xbox One

As Battlefield 1 players already know, Patch 1.05 released at the end of last year and brought with it the Giant's Shadow map. However, players have been noticing that the game looks and plays a touch better than before, and they aren't crazy. The folks over at Digital Foundry recently released an all-new video showing off a comparison of both console versions pre and post patch.

The results aren't revolutionary, but they are noticeable, with framerates staying a bit more consistent in more chaotic sequences such as the Picadilly Hill level you see above. As it turns out, DICE did include a small snippet of the performance improvement in their patch notes for 1.05. It's a bit far down the list, and easy to miss, so here it is.

Console: Tweaked dynamic resolution min cap scaling to improve GPU performance over loss of resolution

This appears to be the effect we see on the PS4 and Xbox One versions above, and while it still doesn't compare to the PC version, an uptick of any kind is always welcome.

Giant's Shadow is the first free map for Battlefield 1 that DICE has released and is available to those who pre-ordered the game ahead of release or for those who purchased a Premium Pass (in which case, it's not all that free).
