Watch Borderlands 3 gameplay reveal, No Pay-to-Win Microtransactions

Gearbox Software just had the gameplay reveal event for their highly anticipated first-person looter-shooter Borderlands 3. It marks the first time that fans get to see the long-awaited game in action. Thankfully, it’s not a short look either but a lengthy 45 minutes. Watch it here!

Borderlands 3 was officially unveiled – after many rumors prior – late last March and ever since the prime IP by Gearbox received tons of attention and interest of gamers. Only understandable since the last main-land title came out a long 5 years ago with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. A surprisingly long hiatus for the franchise which quickly amassed a cult-following and became a smash hit.

As such, expectations are high for Borderlands 3 and from what we have heard and seen now, the wait might have been worth it. Not all news that emerged since the reveal were welcomed positively however. Chief among those is the decision that on PC Borderlands 3 is going to be yet another Epic Games Store exclusive. While not really comparable to console-exclusivity, PC gamers have grown a dislike for Epic’s aggressive pursue of store-exclusives.

Nonetheless, even this controversial decision couldn’t stop the excitement among gamers to see the game finally in action. With the worldwide gameplay reveal now over, they get exactly that. The one-hour show is thankfully consisting of mostly real gameplay and you can watch it above on Youtube.

“As you can plainly see, we’ve made a commitment to what Borderlands is and supposed to be. We’ve made a commitment to the story, style and design that our fans have told us loud and clear that they cherish and want us to preserve in Borderlands 3. There’s no microtransaction-y, free-to-play kind of stuff.

We’re gonna do some kickass campaign DLC. And I’m sure we’re going to do all kinds of fun customizations like heads and skins, but we’re not doing any of that free-to-play junk.” – Randy pitchford

Similarly of interest to fans should be the comments by Gearbox Software CEO and president Randy Pitchford in regard to microtransaction. After all, the gaming industry changed quite a bit since the last Borderlands game with the advent of Games-as-a-Service. As such, many gamers were interested in the monetization system of Borderlands 3. We’re happy to report that Borderlands 3 will not feature any Pay-to-Win microtransactions and will solely focus on cosmetic items. A great relief.

Borderlands 3 is set to come out this September 13 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
