[Watch] The Cloverfield Paradox gets first trailer, coming to Netflix tonight

After many delays and rumors, it’s official: Paramount Pictures will be skipping theaters with Cloverfield 3, AKA The Cloverfield Paradox, in favor of an imminent Netflix release.

The film which has been shrouded in secrecy for years, as is tradition with J.J. Abrams’ Cloverfield franchise, will unveil what the hell awoke the sea monster from the original Cloverfield. In the first film, we see a flashback prior to the attack and something falls into the ocean at the end of the movie. Many have speculated that this is what awoke the unnamed monster from its slumber but no one knows exactly what fell in the ocean or where it came from.

Well, we have an idea now. The Cloverfield Paradox will take place on a space station where the crew supposedly loses contact with Earth, not only through audio communications but Earth just disappears from their view. This information is based on an old plot synopsis so things may have been changed but given the trailer doesn’t reveal a ton other than that it’s directly connected to the first movie and it promises answers, that’s all we have to go off of.

You can view the brief trailer below.

The film will officially release on Netflix after the Super Bowl.
