[Watch] Code Vein Looks Like Party-based Dark Souls in First Gameplay Trailer

Bandai Namco adds some JRPG into the Action RPG genre.

As announced last week, Code Vein is an action JRPG published by Bandai Namco. Before today, all we knew was that it was about vampires and an apocalypse. Today, we get a look at the actual gameplay of Code Vein.

The trailer reveals more of the story and setting, and about half way in we see actual gameplay. It looks like it takes a note from the Dark Souls series drawn with a JRPG brushstroke. What's notably different, however, is that you can have a companion fighting with you, which is something Dark Souls never did. Bandai Namco released a statement on this:

“The trailer also teases the game’s companion gameplay mechanic. As players venture out into the world, they will be able to choose a partner companion from the various residents of Vein. Added strategy presents itself when players choose companions that complement their play style to give them a fighting chance against the vicious enemies they’ll be up against through their journey.”

Code Vein is scheduled for 2018 with no platforms announced yet, other than "major home consoles".
