Divinity: Original Sin 2 has proven to be the blueprint for a fruitful and transparent Kickstarter campaign. The team at Larian Studios stopped by PAX South in San Antonio, Texas this past weekend to show off the game, and as you would expect, it went over pretty well. The game is already considered one of the best Early Access games ever, but that's not stopping Larian from iterating on certain features.
Their focal point recently has been on the game's AI, which they have managed to take to the next level through something they are calling AI 2.0. Opponents will now factor in certain details such as its surroundings, height, and surface types to try and find a tactical edge. As you can see from the update video early on (around 2:25), the AI figured out a way to take the player's natural advantage away from them by throwing a knife at an oil barrel to make it explode. The explosion caused certain parts of the surface to catch fire and damage multiple members of the party.
AI 2.0 will be rolling out with an all-new patch that will also include three new arenas to try out, the Forbidden Valley, Enemy at the Gates, and Ravenshaw. It is still unknown when Divinity: Original Sin 2 will be releasing in full, but Larian has said that it will come this year.
Until then, we'll just have to be satisfied with the Early Access version.
