Watch Dogs 2's build up since its initial reveal was a healthy mix of anticipation and skepticism. That appears to have carried over into the game's sales figures, which developer Ubisoft admits is "comparatively lower" than that of the original game. However, this is not to say that the game is doing poorly, so for you "ZOMG end-of-the-world" types, relax. It's doing fine, just not as well as it was initially thought.
Ubisoft is still "incredibly happy" with the critical reception that the game has gotten as well as feedback from the fans, and the company expects sales for the game going forward to be "above traditional sales patterns." In speaking with Video Gamer, an Ubisoft rep expressed these sentiments, saying:
"It is true that first-day and first-week sales for a number of big games, including Watch Dogs 2 and titles from our competitors, are comparatively lower than previous versions in previous years. However, we expect both week-two and week-three sales to be above traditional sales patterns. There is a trend toward games, especially high-quality games, having stronger and longer 'tails' as favorable reviews and word of mouth spread. Watch Dogs 2 is already considered a tremendous addition to the open-world action adventure series and we’re confident that millions of players are going to love it."
