Delays be damned. Despite all of the setbacks, despite the constant GAF criticism, and despite no consumer hands-on time with the game, Ubisoft's Watch Dogs is smashing pre-order records.
Following Ubisoft's earnings call, the French publisher/developer announced today that Watch Dogs is now the most pre-ordered new IP in company history and the most pre-ordered new IP for the entire game industry this year. It's also the second- highest pre-ordered Ubisoft game ever.
“These strong pre-orders are a clear indication of players’ anticipation and excitement for Watch Dogs,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “The teams have worked tirelessly to ensure that players will enjoy a top quality game with enormous scope, and we can’t wait to get the game into their hands.”
Watch Dogs is set to release on May 27 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. A Wii U version is still in the works, but is coming at a later date. While the general public hasn't actually been able to play Watch Dogs, we recently attended a Ubisoft-hosted media-only event where we had lengthy hands-on time with the single player and multiplayer game modes. We came away pretty impressed and if you're one of the millions who have probably pre-ordered Watch Dogs, then it looks like you made a good decision.
