Watch Dogs cancelled for Wii U? Ubisoft offers no comment

Update:

GameStop has since confirmed that the Watch Dogscancellation was a "glitch" in the system.

Original:

Ubisoft has refused to comment on new rumors reguarding the possible cancellation of Watch Dogs for the Wii U. According to a report on Italian website, Wiitalia, GameStop Italy is refusing to take pre-orders for the Wii U version of Watch Dogs. One of the site's readers claims that a store employee confirmed that Ubisoft had dropped the Wii U version. It wasn't just a single store, either; multiple GameStop retailers were reportedly refusing to take pre-orders for the Wii U version.

Now rumors and speculation stemming from retailers is nothing new to the gaming industry, but it's disconcerting that Ubisoft has yet to deny the rumors. When asked about the legitimacy of the claims a Ubisoft spokesperson said, "We have nothing to comment at the moment."

Admission by omission? Before we jump to any real conclusions it should first be noted that a company refusing to comment on rumor and speculation is nothing new, as it could have legal reprocussions (especially for publicly traded companies like Ubisoft). But if the Wii U version is indeed cancelled, I'd expect a more formal announcement sometime soon as Watch Dogs is expected to release this spring. Officially listed platforms for the game include PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, PS3, and — maybe not anymore — the Wii U.

Something tells me that not many people were planning on getting Watch Dogs for Wii U anyways.
