Watch Dogs’ E3 2012 reveal was ‘a bit early,’ says Ubisoft Montreal

Watch Dogs was easily one of the best reveals to take place at E3 back in 2012, but Ubisoft Montreal at the time felt it might have been "a bit early."

Speaking in the latest issue of EDGE, Ubisoft Montreal creative director Jonathan Morin explained that Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot "forced" the studio to reveal the game, despite them thinking it was too early to show off the game.

"They forced us to go at E3 2012," explained Morin. "We didn't know what the hell those new consoles would be, so Watch Dogs really has worked on [seventh]-gen systems since the start. But we always pushed the ideas, the design, the core of Watch Dogs in such a way that we felt it would fit well with what we thought would be the future of games.

"Yves was the one who wanted us to go at that E3, even though we felt it was a bit early, and in the end I think he was right."

Was he though? Watch Dogs was originally slated as a launch title for the Xbox One and PS4 in November 2013; however, a last minute delay pushed it into 2014. The delay, coupled with the already lengthy wait between the reveal and its actual release, has caused some of the initial excitement to turn into skepticism. The latest trailer sparked criticism from many gamers who believe the graphics have been scaled back, something Ubisoft hasn't admitted to doing so.

Watch Dogs is due out on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC on May 27. A Wii U version is also coming, but still doesn't have a release date.
