Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s upcoming film, Skyscraper, got its first official trailer during Super Bowl 52 last night. The film, channeling vibes from ‘The Towering Inferno’, has Johnson saving his family from the ‘tallest, safest building in the world’ which has caught fire with his family inside.
In Skyscraper, Johnson is a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer. In his retirement (which came after having his leg amputated), Sawyer assesses security for skyscrapers. On his latest assignment in China, Sawyer is working to assess the world’s tallest and safest building.
Unfortunately, the building catches on fire while his family is inside of it and as if that wasn’t enough, Sawyer is framed for it. So, Sawyer has to clear his name and rescue his family from the fiery inferno within the building.
Skyscraper is set to release on July 13th, 2018.
The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Hannah Quinlivan, Neve Campbell, Pablo Schreiber, Ng Chin Han, and more. The film began filming in August 2017.
If you’re unfamiliar with the movie ‘The Towering Inferno,’ it’s a movie from 1974 about the grand opening of a skyscraper. While the building is celebrating its opening, the skyscraper catches fire on a lower level and traps the party attendees and workers on the floor above. Of course, the architect behind the building warned people ahead of time that the building might not be as safe as they hoped, due to wiring concerns.
The premise of The Towering Inferno and Skyscraper sound fairly similar.
