Game of Thrones, as we know it is inching closer to its inevitable end. Winter has finally arrived, and there's not much more that the writers can do to keep the idea of a looming threat interesting without having a payoff. The Great War is coming and according to a brand new teaser that released today, Game of Thrones Season 7 will premiere on July 16th, 2017.
It's been known for some time that Season 7 would be arriving later than every other Game of Thrones season to date, and that's because this one is considerably shorter, clocking in at seven episodes, down from its usual ten. Summer is traditionally a low point for most television series, so it looks like Game of Thrones is going in full steam ahead to dominate the TV market in this time frame. With people scrounging around for things to watch, you'd have to think an HBO GO subscription might look pretty tempting during this time.
Game of Thrones may not even be done once the main series concludes, as there is currently some on-going preliminary talks for a prequel series. Many characters, including Sansa Stark, are likely to see major shifts as The Great War begins to unfold. The only question is, who will live to see the end?
