Epic Games is celebrating Valentine's day with a Gears of War 4 Valentine's event. Along with that event are a couple of general additions to the game that didn't make it into launch.
Valentine's Day Event
The Valentine's event includes new Gears Packs to earn, Valentine's themed bounties, a new craftable character, and the return of Torque Bow Tag with a CUpid-style twist. The actual event starts on February 10!
New Maps
There are also new maps, but in unexpected ways. A new take on the map, Impact, is called Impact Dark and it remixes the entire map, changing the combat dynamics. It gives a night time setting, visibility is reduced over the whole map with the help of darkness and permanent smoke, and different types of weapon drops. These key changes really change the way the map is played.
The classic map War Machine returns with a new setting. Instead of being an abandonded train station, the new War Machine is set in a new COG settlement. Instead of being abandonded and falling apart, this new map looks new and lived in. Despite looking different, the map layout will feel very familiar.
Both of these maps are available today for Season Pass holders.
Guardian Mode
Guardian mode has had some changes based on fan feedback. Instead of respawning with the original spawn swap, Epic has changed how it works completely with the new Leader Spawns. Now, players will respawn in a location closest to your leader, which changes the way the mode is played. Leaders now need to tactfully choose their positions to benefit the entire team
And More…
Epic Games isn't done with Gears of War 4 by a long shot. They plan to continue supporting the game with more Legacy Characters to use. They also have a number of specific updates such as:
- New “Inconceivable” Difficulty (Campaign & Horde)
- IronMan Mode (Campaign & Horde)
- Level 6 skills for all class skills
- More skills for existing classes
- New achievements
- And much more!
