Developer Techland has released a substantial gameplay walkthrough of their highly-anticipated open-world zombie action-adventure Dying Light 2. With a length of close to 30 minutes, this gameplay video is a great way to get an early impression of the game’s new mechanics, setting and even story. Check it out here!

The first Dying Light is the truest definition of a surprise hit. When it came out back in the early years of the current console generation, zombie games were as common as they ever were, and as such, people weren’t expecting a revelation with yet another zombie game. But what Polish developer Techland managed to create was nothing short of a masterpiece. Especially in the worn-out zombie genre.

The last great human settlement exists within an unforgiving, infected world, plunged into a modern dark age. During the day, bandits, factions, and starving survivors roam the streets scavenging for scraps—or someone to take them from, by violence if necessary. At night the infected roam free, evacuating their dark hideouts to prey on the living.

Naturally, the news of a sequel with Dying Light 2 didn’t surprise anyone. What did however was how ambitious the developer was with it. Unlike many other studios, Techland didn’t plan to churn out a copy-paste-type of sequel but is instead trying to raise the bar substantially by adding deep RPG elements, a living open-world and a deep focus of improving the narrative portion. The weakest part of the first game. To achieve that, the developer managed to recruit legendary game writer Chris Avellone. He worked on cult classics such as Fallout: New Vegas, Planescape: Torment, Alpha Protocol and many more.

The chances of Dying Light 2 becoming one of the best games not only of next year but the entire generation are pretty good. We can’t wait for Spring 2020  when the game comes out for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
