WATCH: Half-Life 2: VR Mod releases Steam Greenlight campaign alongside trailer

The staying power that Half-life 2 has had over the last 13 years is truly unprecedented. The hold it has over its faithful fans is unlike anything you'll see anywhere in gaming, rendering many, myself included, into foolish dreamers in thinking that a third entry is still coming, not unlike how some people think Elvis Presley is still alive.

With VR an up and coming platform, a group of modders have undertaken a new project, making Half-life 2: VR compatible with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive alongside a few enhancements. The original VR mod for Half-life 2 was originally released back in 2013, utilizing motion controller support with the Razer Hydra. However, as time has gone by, Valve has not updated its Source Engine implementation to include the old peripherals, so the mod has faded from relevancy quite a bit.

Here's the Steam Greenlight Trailer for the mod:

The aim of this new project is to make Half-life 2: VR playable on modern VR devices and promises to bring a few enhancements. These improvements include updated effects, textures, models and maps as well as a new 3D GUI, specially designed for VR.

The mod itself will be free when it releases, but to play it, you will need a copy of Half-life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2 in your Steam library. That said, if you don't already have them, you're doing something wrong.
