After ten years in development, Final Fantasy XV released to the world today, and for many who have been following the game since it was revealed as Versus XIII back in 2006, this is a monumental day. That said, all is not unquestionably 100% perfect (no game ever is), and one of the things that have had fans concerned over the last several months was just how well it would perform.
After all, performance was the thing that many presumed was the reason for the game's most recent and infamous delay. Fortunately, the game is perfectly functional on both Xbox One and PS4, but as the folks at Digital Foundry have discovered, there is no "perfect version" of the game. The framerate struggles on the PS4 Pro have been documented, but how does the Xbox One fare?
The answer is dependent on what you emphasize more in your games. The Xbox One version is noticeably blurrier compared to its Sony competitor with its resolution topping out at 900p with drops here and there. However, the game's frame rate never wavers from its target 30 FPS, which is something that even the PS4 Pro can't do at launch.
So if you are the type of gamer who has multiple options for platforms, it comes down to the new age question. Do you prefer resolution or framerate? If it's resolution, go with the PS4 version. If it's framerate, get the Xbox One version. Whichever version you pick, one thing is certain. It feels damn good to finally play this game.
