The Texas Chainsaw Massacre films are a staple of the horror genre. Most of them are absolutely terrifying, disturbing, and they fill you with this feeling of dread and tension that you just can't shake once the credits roll. Sadly, over the last few entries… the series has been deminished to mediocre teen horror schlock. We were given a cheap, gimmicky 3D film a few years ago and since then… we've been left with nothing but a bad taste in our mouths.
Lionsgate is looking to right their wrongs with a new entry in the series that will serve as a prequel to the very first movie, showing us just how the killer known as Leatherface came to be. The film known simply as Leatherface got its first trailer today and its creepy, bloody, and it looks like it won't be the nonsense we got with Texas Chainsaw 3D (fingers crossed). You can check out the first trailer and a brief plot synopsis below.
"In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface."
Leatherface will be available exclusively through DirecTV VOD on September 21st, a limited theatrical run and extended VOD release will follow on October 20th, 2017.
