EA and Bioware released the pre-order trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda today but you better hurry, blink and you'll miss it.
We get a glimpse at the contents you'll receive for pre-ordering and EA even managed to sneak in the world premiere of its anticipated multiplayer footage. The only downfall is it lasts about two seconds. For those who pre-order, you'll receive the already announced items of a gold skin for the Nomand, Deep Space Explorer Armor skin for your character and a multiplayer boost pack which contains five 50% XP boosts.
In the trailer above, you can see the multiplayer footage from 0:15-0:17, and we now know that Krogan Vanguard class is confirmed for the multiplayer. This is the first real footage we've seen of multiplayer, but granted being only two seconds long we can't tell much about it. Nothing else was revealed in the trailer, but it does open wider an already gaping hole regarding Andromeda's marketing and story continuity.
The fact that EA chose to reveal the multiplayer for Mass Effect: Andromeda in this fashion not only highlights the weak marketing the game has had so far, it's just shameful. We are less than two months away from release and still haven't seen anything substantial as far as gameplay is concerned.
The few trailers we do have have only been snippets of single player gameplay spliced together into one video to make it appear longer, and still no info on multiplayer horde mode, strike missions or vault raids. It's quite surreal when you combine this with the documented problems Andromeda has had with its story continuity since it was announced. Bioware makes great RPG's, but the marketing with its previous games such as Dragon Age Inquisition have all been on point.
Mass Effect: Andromeda has that same feeling Destiny had leading up to launch when all we really saw was cinematic footage, extremely little gameplay and quite frankly p*ss poor marketing. EA is usually very scheduled and steady when it comes to marketing, and so far Andromeda has been way off the standard mark for them. I'm not saying that Mass Effect: Andromeda is going to be a disaster functionality wise, but what we have seen so far sure as hell points to it.
I sure hope I'm wrong, and if I am I'll be the first to admit it. After all I thought Affleck wouldn't be a good Bruce Wayne and I couldn't have been more wrong there. For now, we have to wait and see what happens as Mass Effect: Andromeda releases on March 21st on both Xbox One and PS4 as well as PC
