After being officially announced back in February, Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the Castlevania animated series and it is epically old school.
Check it out:
Simply titled, Castlevania, the animated series will be split into four 30 minute episodes, comprising the first season and will release on Netflix Instant Streaming on July 7th. It is said that Season 2 will arrive sometime in 2018.
Here's the official synopsis for Castlevania:
Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series written by best-selling author and comic-book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.
Adi Shankar, one of the show's Executive Producers, is said to be interested in doing an R-rated Mega Man movie, so if things go well with this Castlevania series (and by all accounts, its short episode count is indicative of a test run), then we could very well see more dark animated content in the future.
