[Watch] New Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer gives first look at John Marston

After an incredibly long news drought, Red Dead Redemption 2 finally has a new trailer. In this trailer, we get a much better idea of the story in the western prequel, learn a bit more about the characters, and see returning characters such as the iconic outlaw, John Marston.

We’ll have a full breakdown on the site shortly but the trailer reveals that the game is set in 1899, 12 years before the original Red Dead Redemption and 7 years before the failed steamboat heist that tore the gang apart. Protagonist Arthur Morgan is put between a rock and a hard place after a failed heist in the fancy town of Blackwater paints a massive target on the backs of everyone in Dutch’s gang. They quickly become the priority of federal agents, deadly bounty hunters, and just about everyone else in the West.

Morgan must decide if it’s worth running for the rest of his life with Dutch’s gang or if it’s time to leave this life behind. In the trailer we see the almost family-like dynamic between the crew with them standing together, riding together, and all telling stories around a campfire. Perhaps the biggest reveal in the trailer is we see someone holding a knife to John Marston’s throat. While everyone has speculated if the character will be in the game, the time period confirms this is before his departure and he has fresh scars on the right side of his face which are visible in the same spot in the original Red Dead Redemption.

We still have lots of questions but maybe some of those will be answered tomorrow as several media outlets have coverage of the game. While we don’t know specifics, they probably visited Rockstar for a press event and got to either play the game themselves or experience an in-depth presentation from the secretive studio. Regardless, we’ll be sure to keep you posted on whatever comes out of this coverage tomorrow.

Red Dead Redemption 2 releases on October 26th, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
