[Watch] New trailer for Netflix’s Death Note drops; Featurette too

I'll be reserving my judgement on the film until I see it.

The extremely divisive upcoming film from Netflix, Death Note, has received a new trailer, as well as a featurette trailer featuring the team behind the adaptation talking about the movie. You can check out the new trailer above and the featurette below!

Here's the official synopsis:

Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

The Netflix adaptation of Death Note has been described as a 'new interpretation' of the manga, not a straight adaptation of the manga or anime. The movie tackles the idea of what happens when a teenager gets their hands on that ultimate power to kill anyone and the moral ambiguity of killing people for a better world.

There have already been multiple live action Death Note adaptations, the Netflix version diverts from the path created from previous films by offering a different take on the popular plotline.

Death Note is directed by Adam Wingard (You’re Next) with a script by Charley & Vlas Parlapanides (Immortals) and Jeremy Slater (TV’s The Exorcist).

Death Note is set to hit Netflix on August 25th.
