[Watch] Nioh’s Action Mode on PS4 Pro is the best way to play the game

Nioh is still just a few days away, though its review embargo was up today. The fact that reviews are out now is an excellent sign, and another thing that's also good is just how well the game runs on the PS4 Pro when using the game's Action Mode. As you can see, Digital Foundry has reported that the game is best played in this mode, due to its combination of 1080p resolution and 60 FPS.

The game looks truly astonishing, and the responsiveness you get with 60 FPS in undeniable. However, it is worth noting that the game's Cinematic mode is not quite all it's cracked up to be. In the technical sense, it does manage to hit 30 FPS; there's a noticeable chugging effect that goes on in spite of the (relatively) stable frame rate. Sure, the environment is more detailed and vibrantly rendered, but if you can't stay on top of the difficulty at an optimal rate, you're kinda defeating the purpose of the game IMO.

That said, given Team Ninja's long-running dedication to game performance, it's safe to call Nioh another success story in that regard. And even if you are only playing the game on a standard PS4, you're still going to get high performance.

Nioh releases exclusively on PS4 on February 7th, 2017.
