Overwatch is a unique beast in the sense that it has lots of lore (quality lore at that) and yet almost none of it exists in the main game, at least in the traditional sense. Overwatch is giving its lore a more active role in its Uprising event, which officially started today. Uprising is giving players a chance to play through a critical moment in the game's history when the war between the agents of Overwatch and Null Sector was going on and an unknown recruit who you know as Tracer, was just getting started.
Blizzard released a pair of trailers today; one detailing the mechanics of the event, and the other giving you a taste of the backstory. Here are the trailers:

Backstory:
By partaking in the Uprising event, players can unlock exclusive Loot Boxes which grant a variety of new cosmetic skins, highlights, emotes and sprays themed after key moments from the history of Overwatch. Some of these skins were previously leaked on Imgur, which at the time were a bit odd considering the similarities between all of the characters' outfits.
In other Overwatch new, Game Director Jeff Kaplan wasn't terribly optimistic about the game coming to Nintendo Switch, but the game's next character is "very far along in development."
Overwatch's Uprising event starts today and runs until May 1st, and once it concludes, you will no longer be able to unlock the exclusive Loot Boxes.
