WATCH: Prey gets its first graphics and framerate comparison test video

Bethesda and Arkane Studios are on the cusp of releasing their Prey reboot to the world, and to get the masses excited, they released a demo of the first hour of the game last week. Now that gamers and media types alike have had a chance to give it a test run, opinions both positive and negative are beginning to pop up around the internet. Digital Foundry took the time to make a comparison video of the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game (PC players didn't get a demo) to take a hard look at performance.

It's especially notable because Prey was built in Cry Engine, which doesn't have the greatest history when it comes to console releases. Overall, Prey's technical performance is pretty sound from a resolution and framerate perspective, despite some controller lag on the PS4 version and a weird audio quirk.

Here's the video.

As far as the gameplay goes, Prey is very much a Shock clone if the first hour is anything to go by. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as the game echoes aspects of one of gaming's greatest, System Shock, but seems to be content with sticking to the formula.

Prey releases on PC, PS4, and Xbox One next week on May 5th, 2017.
