Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is shaping up to be a real successor to 2015's epic title Shadow of Mordor. Last week, we got a look at the new predator skills that players can use while sneaking up on enemies. Today, IGN got an exclusive look at the weapons and gear functions of the game, and they look to be a massive upgrade from the previous game.
In Shadow of Mordor, equipment wasn't really a thing, although runes could be equipped to weapons to augment them. Now, Talion can equip new weapons, armor, and runes to his ring of power. Not only that, but the concept of challenges to power up weapons also returns, albeit in a different way. Each weapon has an optional upgrade that can be met by performing a challenge listed on said weapon at any time, unlocking it and making it even more powerful.
Take a look at the video below:
Another thing we've noticed is that enemies are no longer just Uruk-hai. We see Talion fighting a Troll, who's also a commander, bolstering the number of enemies in an exciting way. We also know Nazgul will appear as bosses.
The mechanics to climbing the ranks look very exciting. Hopefully, these new upgrades don't make the game too easy, as Shadow of Mordor became kind of a cake-walk as the higher levels were achieved.
