The announcement of Shadow of War being delayed until October may physically wound us, but today, Monolith has eased (or made worse?) our pain by giving us a new story trailer for the next installment of the Middle-earth title, and it is epic.
The trailer shows Talion talking to a raven-haired woman that seems to be a human form of Shelob, the queen of spiders. They seem to be making a deal to fight Sauron.
It seems more humans have appeared in Mordor and Talion aims to protect them and to overthrow Sauron. You can watch the trailer for the story, but there are two interesting takeaways that may relate to the mechanics of the game.
One, there seems to be an Uruk directly possessed by Sauron, as it calls out to Talion personally. This could play out a bit like the Harbinger in Mass Effect 2. Secondly, Talion is encountered by a woman who is set on destroying those who are corrupted by rings of power, and warns you not to become one of them. She seems more than capable of defending herself, and with Shadow of Mordor allowing you to play as other characters (though just a minor skin change), it may lead to another playable character.
Monolith has made clear that their delay is all about polish, as they want their new title to be just as polished, if not more, as Shadow of Mordor when it releases in October.
