The new DOOM game has been out for less than a week, but speedruns are already being preformed, and the current world record run is under 90 minutes! He also managed to beat DOOM on Nightmare mode under 1:45:00, which also is a world record.
Finnish speedrunner DraQu took it upon himself to become the current world record holder for the fastest play through of DOOM, a feat which he accomplished on PC in 1:29:58, that is the whole game in under 90 minutes. It's quite impressive that speedrunners such as DraQu have already figured out the routes and jumps that no mortal would attempt just to be able to beat the game faster, and this is just a week into the games lifetime.
The run, which can be viewed above, is a start to finish run, he did not collect 100% of the items in DOOM, a fact that he pointed out in the video and said "100% runs won't be that popular" since there is a lot of items to pick up. The 100% runs are also a separate category to the regular runs, just like beating the game on different difficulties are different categories of runs as well.
Maybe the most impressive thing isn't his 90 minute speedrun, but the fact that DraQu also finished DOOM on Nightmare mode in 1:41:45 which is also the current world record. Understandably the higher difficulty runs take longer time to accomplish since the runner can't just run past enemies as easily.
There is still room for improvement on the DOOM speedruns, something that DraQu also noticed and it is probably just a matter of time before the run is slimmed down even more since better and faster routes and jumps are discovered every hour.
Onnea, DraQu!
