If you're a Sonic fan, 2006 is a year you'd probably like to forget. Scratch that, there's a lot of recent years that you'd probably like to forget, but that's not the point. Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 has been remade into a game that doesn't suck, and that alone is something fans should be ecstatic about. Gistix is a group made up of devout Sonic The Hedgehog fans, and they recently posted a video on YouTube Gaming that shows off their latest passion project.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2006, a game that originally came out on Xbox 360 and PS3 to paltry Metascores of 46 and 43 respectively, has been rebuilt in Unity by Gistix, and their hard work appears to be paying off. The team has released a public demo, which you can download here.
While it would be wise to download the demo as soon as possible, it should be mentioned that SEGA has been one of the rare developers that encourages people to make fan games based on the Sonic brand. And fans have done just that.
2017 might just be a year for Sonic fans to get hopeful about the IP's future (key word, might) as an all-new proper 2D Sonic game called Sonic Mania is due to release sometime this Spring and a 3D title, known only as Project Sonic 2017 is supposed to come out this holiday season. Not much else has been revealed about either game after they debuted to the public six months ago, but….well Sonic fans have been down the road of disappointment before, right?
