Watch the explosive first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence

The first official trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence is attached to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but it looks like it released a bit early.

As a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster starring Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, just about everything in Independence Day: Resurgence is bigger. From the actual alien ships to the explosions and destruction, the trailer is filled with action sequences that'll hopefully elicit the same reactions you had when you first saw the original.

Of course, a lot has changed since the aliens first arrived. For starters, using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have united to build an immense defense program to protect the planet. But will it be enough to fend off this new extra-terrestrial threat?

Come on, we all know the answer to that.

Independence Day: Resurgence explodes into theaters on June 24, 2016. Much of the cast appears to have returned, including Jeff Goldblum and a ruggedly bearded BIll Pullman. However, Will Smith is not in the sequel; in his place will be Liam Hemsworth, who plays Jake Morrison. Let's be honest though, we're all watching for Jeff Goldblum anyways.
