The Last Guardian is almost here! We've seen the final trailer for the game at the PlayStation Experience and the unboxing of the special edition of the game. It's clear that Sony is very excited about this game and has the utmost confidence in its presentation, as seen by the first nine minutes of the game released by Sony themselves.
But these are all scripted and planned. For a game we've been waiting for after nine years with reported development issues, it's pretty understandable that players would like to know the game is good before finally pulling the trigger.
Digital Foundry tells us that the game has full PS4 pro-support on day one. They also discuss a number of detailed differences between the Standard PS4 and the PS4 Pro version. They do state however that while the PS4 Pro delivers a better, more beautiful experience, that even the standard PS4 version is still "One of the most visually arresting games on the machine to date"
The video does note that the texture resolution is not as high as it could be for a PS4 title, but that lighting, animation and a high-quality (and well used) motion blur help pull the visuals together to make the end result positive. Although there are some framerate variations in the standard PS4 version, Digital Foundry does not call for avoiding the standard version, although they strongly suggest the PS4 Pro at 1080p. The best performing version is actually the PS4 Pro 1080p and not 4K.
