In 2008, a tense home invasion film by the name of The Strangers was released. It got mixed reviews, some feeling that it lacked any characterization behind the masked killers and that there was a lack of an immediate plot outside of people trying to escape from a gang of psychopaths. The film was praised for its use of effective tension and great scares but it didn't quite fill the creative void that some horror fans wanted it to fill.
There were rumblings of a sequel for years after the inital release of the first film and a script even floated around on the web. Now, it's finally happening and will hit theaters just two months before the first film's ten year anniversary. The film titled The Strangers: Prey at Night will follow a family staying at a mobile home park who eventually have to survive a night being terrorized by the creepy murderers from the first film. You can check out the teaser trailer down below.
The Strangers: Prey at Night will hit theaters on March 9th, 2018 and will star Mad Men actress Christina Hendricks. The actors who originally portrayed the killers will not be returning and have been replaced by a new group of people but it appears to still be the same characters. The film looks to take cues from the script that leaked seven years ago but it's unclear if any changes have been made to it.
