[Watch] The Surge showcases its Sci-Fi Souls inspiration in new 4-minute gameplay trailer

It's amazing how much influence that Demon's Souls has had on the industry as a whole. While Dark Souls made it famous, Demon's Souls began the craze of the hardcore Action-RPG, where any encounter big or small could mean your death. The Surge wears those influences on its sleeve, though this time, it steers away from Gothic Fantasy and into Sci-Fi.

This latest trailer revealed by Deck 13 showcases just how tough combat can be (they aren't afraid to show that even they die in the game) as well as its patented limb cutting system which is aiming to add something new to the formula. Many of the enemies you see above are the result of "unspoken experiments" but also offer the player a unique choice.

You can either choose to attack its weak points for a faster kill or aim for their armored parts, which can drop valuable materials that can be used to seriously augment your character. The choice is yours, and it's one that shows that The Surge might have what it takes to evolve the Souls formula in a meaningful way.
