Watch the System Shock Remake devs playthrough of the new demo

Nightdive Studios has released a brand-new lengthy gameplay video for their remake of the 1994 cult-classic System Shock. There’s still no concrete release date for the remake, but we’re hoping that 2020 will finally be the year where we can experience one of the most influential games of all time. You can check out the entire video below!

The System Shock name is most likely an unknown to many gamers these days, but the truth is, the game is widely accepted as the granddaddy of the immersive-sim genre. You might have played and loved games of that genre such as Dishonored, Prey, Deus Ex, Thief and many more. The unique genre is usually a blend of first-person action, mixed with RPG elements and a hefty focus on a world that feels alive. Thus the immersive-sim.

You’re a renowned hacker, the most notorious cyberspace thief in the corporate world. Caught during a risky break-in, you become indentured to a greedy TriOptimum executive. After six months in a healing coma, you awaken to the twisted aftermath of a terrible disaster. Where are the surgeons? Why is the station in such disrepair? Slowly, the chilling realization that something is very wrong creeps over you. Once a prime corporate research facility, Citadel Station now teems with mindless cyborgs, robots and terribly mutated beings, all programmed to serve SHODAN, a ruthless A.I. There’s scarcely time to think before it unleashes the first terror…

While the franchise took a long hiatus after the excellent sequel in 1999, the genre experienced an unlikely comeback thanks to Arkane Studios’ brilliant Dishonored titles. Now, we are not looking at one but three new System Shock games. Well, “new”. There’s an enhanced edition of SS2 in the works by Nightdive Studios as well as a proper third entry with SS3. And with a remake of the first game, the future looks exceptionally well for iconic forgotten gem.

Sadly, there’s no news about the remake’s release date apart from a vague 2020 window, but we already know that it will come out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
