Bethesda has released a new trailer for Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, proving once again that this game will be very narrative-based. Recently, the director of the game said that gaming is "The pinnacle art form at this point in time." This new video puts his money where his mouth is.
In this particular trailer, we see the world these characters live in. For those unaware, Wolfenstein 2 takes place in an alternate reality where the Nazis won World War 2 and now control America. We see an American woman and her child interacting with a Nazi Kommandant. He later shifts his attention to the player where he slowly learns that he's a wanted person of interest.
Most First-Person Shooters would have the player just spray-and-pray bullets across the screen at anything with a gun, but Wolfenstein seems to mix in drama in a way that's only possible through video games. Sure, a scene like this could play out in a movie. This scene in Inglourious Basterds comes to mind. But video games put the viewer into the eyes of the main character. Suddenly, instead of wondering what's going to happen to the protagonist next, the player is wondering what's going to happen to them.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on October 27.
