The Nintendo Switch has had one of, if not the most successful launch years in recent memory. With Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2 already on store shelves with Mario + Rabbids joining them tomorrow, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 almost feels like overkill. And that's not even mentioning Super Mario Odyssey. That said, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is also due out in 2017, looking to hit during the Holiday season, and while we wait on a final release date, Nintendo has revealed almost an hour of gameplay during Gamescom 2017.
Here it is:
Much like the original Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, Chronicles 2 takes place on the bodies of giant Titans, and this gameplay demo takes place Uraya, a dimly lit cave located inside one of the colossi. The battle system is largely the same as past games, though it does come with a few refinement, namely in the way that the player can heal themselves. Players can now knock potions out of enemies that they can then retrieve to heal damage to party members on the fly.
It's a lot more streamlined than having to navigate your way through menus during the action clumsily, so it looks to be a subtle tweak that could end up paying off in a rather significant way.
We still don't know when Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will release, but suffice it to say; it should cap off an incredible first year for the Nintendo Switch.
