The Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons Watchmen has been a comic book, and later, also a live-action movie. But now there's an animated movie coming, and it's coming soon.
A recent survey by Warner Bros. "A-List Community" program has revealed the status of an animated adaptation of the graphic novel. It's defined as "an upcoming made-for-video movie." The film is apparently already in development or just out of the final stages of production.
It is described as, “A faithful adaptation of the Watchmen graphic novel executed in an animation style that mirrors the source material,” which sounds much like Warner Bros. approach to Frank Miller's "Dark Knight Returns" and Moore's 'The Killing Joke".
Interestingly enough, Moore and Gibbons are left unmentioned in the survey. Moore made it clear in Zack Snyder's 2009 Watchmen that he wanted the story to be left to stand on its own. Despite this, DC has been working on this, as well as turning rumors about a live-action TV show with HBO.
