As expected, Star Wars Day has provided us with some big news regarding the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Courtesy of Vanity Fair, which sent photographer Annie Leibovitz to the set of the new film for a cover shooter of their June issue, we have confirmation that Adam Driver is playing villain Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And I'll tell ya what, he does look rather villainous. Look at that menacing scowl.
Vanity Fair's photo caption reads: "Next-generation bad guy Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) commands snowtroopers loyal to the evil First Order on the frozen plains of their secret base."
Kylo Ren was first shown in The Force Awakens' teaser trailer back in November. Of course, he was the mysterious hooded figure wielding that super-impractical three-bladed lightsaber that garnered so much discussion. He was shown again in the most recent trailer (above), donning an intimidating mask and appearing to use the signature "Force Push." We still don't know Ren's backstory, or if he's somehow related to any of the characters in the original trilogy, but he sure does look evil.
It also revealed that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o will be playing a CGI character named Maz Kanata, some kind of space pirate.
