We might see loot boxes added in a future Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered update

Good things don't always last forever.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered released just two weeks ago and remains mostly untouched from a gameplay and mechanics standpoint. Raven Software gave the game a visual overhaul and added little things like calling cards and emblems in multiplayer, but the core game is still as you remember it! However, that could soon change.

In recent Call of Duty games, studios have added in a weapons dealer or loot crates that add extra weapons, skins, and more. Fans are fairly divided on this as some think it's a shady way to get players to use real money to buy them to earn new things faster while some really love it. Some leftover code in Modern Warfare Remastered may have revealed this is coming to the iconic shooter in the future.

A player digging through files for the game discovered weapon models for guns not in the game, references to a weapons dealer, and more. Some of the weapons are borrowed from Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops, and some are guns never before seen in the series.

This could be a feature that was scrapped during development and the code was left in the game or it could be teasing a future update. Some code also references character customization, you can view the code here on Pastebin. You can see some of the weapons in-game below.
