Disney's Chairman and CEO has confirmed that we will be seeing Star Wars movies beyond 2021.
Before Star Wars: The Force Awakens released, we knew we would be getting plenty of Star Wars films. When The Force Awakens was revealed, it was announced that two spin-off movies and two proper movies were coming.
Every year, Disney would be releasing a new Star Wars movie up until 2019. It was really no surprise, especially after Disney's Chairman and CEO Bob Iger said "There will be more [Star Wars Movies]…I don't know how many, I don't know how often."
Up until now, this is how the schedule looked:
Well, Iger has revealed that we can look forward to even more Star Wars movies after 2020. Iger met with the head of LucasFilm recently and started talking about what would be coming in 2021 "and beyond." Basically, when he said there was more Star Wars coming, he meant it:
"I had a meeting yesterday with Kathy Kennedy and we mapped out — well, we reviewed — the ‘Star Wars’ plans that we have ’til 2020. We have movies in development for ‘Star Wars’ ’til then, and we started talking about what we’re going to do in 2021 and beyond".
As far as the coming movies go, we know who will be Han in the Han Solo spin-off, that Disney has less faith in Rogue One than they did The Force Awakens and that Episode 8 and 9 are already underway.
