Can you believe we’re already in May? Just one more month and we’re at E3, which is sure to be filled with tons of gaming news. While May promises tons of hype leading up to the big event, it’s not like this past week was completely barren of exciting gaming news. Heck, just last Sunday we had the official unveiling of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. And let’s not forget about all the Destiny goodness.
So without further ado, here are the top headlines for this week (4/26/15 – 5/2/15) in video games.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 officially revealed
Activision and Treyarch lifted the lid on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 with a thrilling gameplay trailer that confirms we’re headed to a dark and gritty future "where a new breed of Black Ops soldier emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the cutting-edge military robotics that define the future of combat."
Amid all the rumors, speculation, and drama surrounding the split of Konami and Hideo Kojima, the developer/publisher confirmed this weekend that Silent Hills is cancelled. If you recall, the developer released a playable teaser for the game, P.T., last year with a character featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus. Well, that was also pulled from the PlayStation Store.
New Batman: Arkham Knight trailer released, shows off amazing new feature
Rocksteady released a new gameplay trailer for the highly anticipated Batman: Arkham Knight that showed off more than just the action that awaits us. A brand new feature called Dual Play was revealed; it gives you the ability to seamlessly switch between Batman and his allies, including Robin, Nightwing, and Catwoman in free-flow combat. An expensive Season Pass was also announced.
May’s Games with Gold (for Xbox) and PlayStation Plus (for PlayStation) lineup of free games announced
Free games for the month of May were revealed for both Xbox and PlayStation owners. Need I say more
Destiny’s House of Wolves: Trials of Osiris fully revealed and detailed
Bungie shares a ton of details regarding the Trials of Osiris, the new weekly PvP event coming to Destiny with the House of Wolves expansion. Four new Crucible maps were also revealed.
Watch Dogs 2 potentially leaked
A Ubisoft employee accidentally spills the beans about a sequel to Watch Dogs. Sure, the first one was a bit of a disappointment for many, but surely Ubisoft has learned from their mistakes.
After weeks of speculation, Deep Silver finally confirmed that Dead Island 2 has been delayed. According to the developer, the studio needed more time to “reach that goal we set out to achieve.” Check out the new date here.
Star Wars Starter Set leaked for Disney Infinity 3.0
Disney hasn’t announced it yet, but leaked images possibly reveal that a Star Wars Starter Set will be sold for Disney Infinity 3.0. The Starter Set appears to be Clone Wars themed, except it looks like it will encapsulate more than just the TV show.
PlayStation 4 sales surpass 22.3 million units
There’s not stopping the PlayStation 4 as the console is single handedly saving Sony from financial ruin. The latest sales figures for the PS4 were revealed earlier this week.
