What you should buy from Destiny’s Xur this weekend (9/25/15-9/26/15)

Leave it to Xur to kick up the hornet’s nest that is the Destiny community. First he sold Gjallarhorn, then he didn’t sell weapons, and now he’s got Hawkmoon on offer. Volatile opinions abound. Now, I’ll deal with Hawkmoon in a later piece. For now, let’s evaluate Xur’s inventory for the weekend ahead.

Ruin Wings: Titans are known for their destructive power and brute force. It’s only fitting, then, that they own a pair of gloves which accentuate heavy weapons. The Ruin Wings have always been strong: their special ability greatly increases the amount of heavy ammo (or hammo, for short) you receive from enemy drops, which ups your overall PvE power level considerably. The Wings are invaluable in activities like Strikes and Raids. They’re strong enough with rocket launchers, and have only gotten better with the addition of the sword heavy type. The option to choose between sniper rifle and rocket launcher reload speed on Xur’s latest model is icing on the cake. These are a must-buy for any Titan.

Sealed Ahamkara Grasps: Hunters have never had good luck with gauntlets. Which is to say all exotic Hunter gauntlets are borderline unusable. Don’t Touch Me has exactly one application, Khepri’s Sting is hideous and situational and the Young Ahamkara’s Spine isn’t worth an exotic slot, even in its year two form. Here to continue that trend are the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps, a gimmicky pair of gauntlets with an ability that would hardly be worthwhile even on a legendary item. Stacking melee charges is the epitome of win-more, and the possibility of instantly reloading your primary weapon is irrelevant given the default reload speed of primaries. These are a fashionable piece of Hunter armor, but impractical as ever. Pass.

Light Beyond Nemesis: How many times has Xur sold Light Beyond Nemesis? Not enough, I say. Its added revive speed and orb generation makes it one of the best Warlock helmets for all PvE activities, as well as revive-based Crucible games like elimination and skirmish. Every Warlock should have one. If you don’t, pick one up this weekend. It’s got a great stat roll this time around, and 13 strange coins, as opposed to 125 legendary marks, is a bargain for its year two version.

Hawkmoon: I speak no hyperbole when I say Hawkmoon is the most broken weapon in Destiny. If you don’t have one, you want one. If you’re playing on Xbox, odds are you really want one. Buy one before Bungie comes to their senses. Again, more on that later.
