Where are all the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 players on Wii U?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 may have earned over $500 million worldwide when it launched last week for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC, but it seems the game is struggling to catch on with Wii U players. It's likely that we won't hear specific figures regarding the Wii U version of Activision's biggest launch title of the year for quite a while, but upon signing in to online yesterday we noticed a startling number: only 600-some players were online at the time.

Upon logging on today that number dropped to a jaw-dropping 154 players. Attempting to find a multiplayer match was extremely slow and in some cases, certain game modes have nobody playing them.

Giving it the benefit of the doubt, it could be that the Wii U just released and not many people have picked up their copy just yet. The Wii U was just released in the United States on Sunday, but it has been sold out in many retailers for weeks now. Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime has promised that the Wii U stock will be replenished by Black Friday and again by Christmas, so hopefully we start to see the player base grow. Until then, it looks like those of you hoping to enjoy Black Ops 2 online for the Wii U will have to wait an awfully long time to find a match.

Of course, taking the more pessimistic (and likely) approach it could be that everyone interested in the game has already purchased it for Xbox 360 and PS3. Black Ops 2 has been available for both of those consoles since November 13, so it's quite likely that people didn't want to wait an additional week for the Wii U to launch. Nintendo has never really been known to cater to the hardcore gaming audience, but with the Wii U now offering HD graphics, that could change.

Are you interested in Black Ops 2 for the Wii U or are you happy owning it on another console?
