Why PlanetSide 2 PS4 was missing from SOE’s development roadmap

Earlier this week, Sony Online Entertainment posted a development roadmap for future features heading to PlanetSide 2. While there was tons of intriguing content, missing from the roadmap was any sort of mention of the PlayStation 4 version of PlanetSide 2. The lack of details, coupled with SOE President John Smedley's remarks that the studio isn't "ready to talk dates yet," led to some worries that PlanetSide 2 won't be ready for the "early 2014" PS4 launch promised a while back.

Turns out, though, there's actually not much cause for concern reguarding no mention of the PS4 version. As explained to us by an SOE representative, the roadmap is just a roadmap for content and features of PlanetSide 2 "as a whole." Essentially, it's just a list of items and features that are scheduled to be added, which the the community can then discuss and provide feedback on.

Following the PS4 version's launch, the roadmap will be the same for all platforms. "There won't be a notation for PC this, or PS4 that, because the content is all the same," the rep told GameZone. "It's just content that will be coming to the game in total."

So while we still don't have a release date for PlanetSide 2 on PS4, at least we now know why there was no mention of it on the roadmap.
