Why was Brock Lesnar selected to be WWE 2K17’s cover star?

The opportunity to be the cover star of WWE 2K17 is a huge one for any athlete but this year it's no ordinary wrestler, it's Brock Lesnar.

Many WWE fans might well have been a little surprised by the announcement, which is nothing against Lesnar, but more so shocked by the company deciding not to promote somebody like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins or the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dean Ambrose.

Reason being, according to The Wrestling Observer, that both 2K Sports and Vince McMahon believe that Brock Lesnar will generate appeal on a mainstream level.

In the last few years WWE has selected The Rock, John Cena and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to be the cover star of its annual video game, all of which are established stars in the industry, and even Lesnar falls into that category.

Brock is set to fight for both WWE and UFC in the coming months, as he is scheduled for both SummerSlam and UFC 200.

The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion has already participated in creating some promotional material for the game so far, ahead of its expected release in October. Check out Brock Lesnar's WWE 2K17 reveal video here.
