Wii U allows for a ‘unique and fun Resident Evil game’, says Capcom dev

Nintendo's Wii U console might be one of the most highly-criticized consoles I've ever seen, and it's not even out yet. It's unique design which features an innovative tablet GamePad controller allows for a totally new type of gameplay experience. Although many developers — like EA, Activision, and Vigil Games to name a few — have supported Nintendo's new console, praising its unique ability, there still remains a large audience of skeptics.

Resident Evil Revelations director Koshi Nakanishi has come to the defense of the Wii U.

"The Wii U certainly looks like it will enable creators to come up with all kinds of never-before-seen gameplay ideas," Nakanishi told Official Nintendo Magazine. "There are lots of things I'd like to try out on it."

Nakanishi went on to say, "If I was to work on a game for the Wii U, I would definitely want to make something that couldn't be done on any other hardware."

If you think about, the Wii, in essence, is like a larger Nintendo 3DS. Only now you can play it on the big screen.

"The GamePad's separate screen enables so many possibilities, and playing on a television screen would enable sharing the experience in a way that wasn't possible on Nintendo 3DS," Nakanishi concluded. "I feel it would let us create a very unique and fun Resident Evil game."

Pre-orders for the Wii U have been outstanding so far, selling out at most retailers. However, it remains to be seen if Nintendo will meet its goal of 5.5 million Wii U units sold by March 31, 2013 — a goal which industry analyst Michael Pachter referred to as "disappointing and unrealistic".
